Jazz on the Common

The poster that went wrong

By Michele, 30th December 2013

I was contacted by the owners of a restaurant pub in SW London to design a poster and flyer for their idea of organising a jazz event in the park. The brief was quite loose so I created typography and illustrations using light, summery colours to reflect the mood of the event. Although we went through just a couple of rounds of amends the whole thing was quite labour intensive. It all got more complicated when the client actually stopped replying to my emails/calls after approving the final design and it took me a few weeks to find out that the bar had closed/gone bust and that I would never see a penny for all my work. It had gone wrong, it was a dud. Harsh way to learn to ask for an advance payment to all clients from that moment on…
